Life Story for Charles E. Barben, Jr.

Charles E.  Barben, Jr.
CHARLES E. BARBEN, JR., age 75 years, died on Sunday, September 7, 2014 in his home in Cardiff, MD. He was the husband of Brenda D. (Fillmore) Barben who preceded him in death on November 9, 2005.

Born on March 9, 1939 in Whiteford, MD, he was a son of the late Charles E. Barben, Sr. and Margaret V. (Thompson) Barben. A lifetime resident of the area, Mr. Barben was a welder and had worked for the former Wiley’s Shipyard of Port Deposit, MD and retired from working at Ingold’s HICO, Inc. in Bel Air, MD. A lifetime member, he joined the Delta-Cardiff Volunteer Fire Company in 1962 and Whiteford Volunteer Fire Company in 1997. A dedicated volunteer, Mr. Barben helped with the community carnival when it was located in Delta, was instrumental in designing the brush truck unit and worked the chicken barbecues at the Whiteford Fire House. Mr. Barben had been inducted into the Hall of Fame with the Volunteer Firemen’s Association of Harford-Cecil Counties. Inc.

He was a former member of Cambria United Methodist Church. A loving husband, father and grandfather, he enjoyed yard work and flower gardening.

He is survived by
Three children-
Tammy J. Sparks and her husband, David of Fawn Grove, PA
Charles E. Barben, III and his wife, Shawna Lynn of Conowingo, MD
Matthew A. Barben and his wife, Marcia of Cardiff, MD

Eight grandchildren-
David E. Sparks, Jr., Jessica L. Sparks, Brenden G. Barben, Candace A. Barben, Katelin J. Barben, Cameron Barben, Jaxson Barben and Kimberly DeShaw.

Two brothers-
Ronnie L. Barben and Daniel L. Barben, both of Whiteford, MD

He was preceded in death by his sister, Betty M. Gray.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September, 11, 2014 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Harkins Funeral Home, 600 Main Street, Delta, PA where the funeral service will begin on Friday at 11 a.m.

Reverend Carlton Ballard of Delta Chapel will officiate.

Interment will be in Stewartstown Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, his family would appreciate memorial contributions to the Whiteford V. F. C., PO Box 222, Whiteford, MD 21160.
