Life Story for Martha Marie Devine

Martha Marie  Devine
MARTHA MARIE DEVINE, age 92 years, died on Monday, September 22, 2014 at Arden Court of Towson, MD. She was formerly of Havre de Grace, MD; Shrewsbury, PA and was the beloved wife of George W. Devine who died in 1993.

Born on December 1, 1921 in Delta, PA, she was one of four daughters born to her parents, the late Joseph O. and Lillie Mae (Bennington) Beard. A graduate of the former Delta High School, she had worked as a seamstress for 28 years with the former D & D Sewing Factory, also in Delta. Mrs. Devine was a member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church in Fawn Grove, PA. She and her late husband dedicated much of their time to volunteer work serving with the Salvation Army, the Telephone Company Pioneers-where they were associate members, and assisting residents with personal needs as well as gifting her sewing talents at Citizens Nursing Center in Havre de Grace. After the death of her husband, she moved to the Shrewsbury Village in 1994. During this time, she became a member of the Shrewsbury Lutheran Brotherhood, and began helping residents at the Shrewsbury Lutheran Home. Later, she moved to the Ardent Court to be closer to family members who cared for her in her final years.

She is survived by:
A sister, Jodie Beard Glackin of York, PA, formerly of Delta

Loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary E. Glackin in 1993 and Ella V. Kilgore in 2009.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 26, 2014 from 10 to 11 a.m., followed immediately with the funeral service at Harkins Funeral Home, 600 Main Street, Delta, PA.

Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Fawn Grove, PA.

In lieu of flowers, her family would prefer memorial contributions to Mt. Olivet U.M.C., 786 Mt. Olivet Church Road, Fawn Grove, PA 17321 or the Salvation Army Eastern Territory, 440 W. Nyack Road, West Nyack, NY 10994.
