Life Story for H. Viola Washburn

H. Viola  Washburn
VIOLA WASHBURN (nee McFadden) was born on in 25 July 1922 and passed away 17 November 2014 at the age of 92. She was preceded in death by:

Her husband of 42 years, Glenn R. (1918-1984)
Her parents Robert Marshall (1885-1967) and Hanna Ann (nee Whiteford-1894 – 1968)

Her four siblings:-
Robert Curtis (1910 – 1978)
Hugh Delmar (1912 – 1988)
Phoebe Louise Sewell (1915 – 2009)
Lily Margaret Watters (1918 – 1996).

She is survived by a son Douglas (of Harford County, Maryland) and his wife, Mary; granddaughter Katherine (of Louisiana) and her children: Joseph, Christopher and Alex DuBree; a grandson Gregory (of Delaware) and his wife Mystinna and their sons-Mason and Reid.

Vi was born in the Stansbury Mansion at Eden Mill where her late father worked as the miller from
1918 – 1930. She and her husband lived in Jarrettsville, Maryland for most of their married life. Viola then lived in Bel Air for many additional years. Most recently, she resided at the Willow Valley Communities in Lancaster Pennsylvania.

Viola had worked as an operator for the former C&P Telephone Company at their Bel Air location in her youth and later as a Civil Service employee at Edgewood Arsenal. Viola and her late husband, Glenn enjoyed traveling in their Air Stream RV. They both cherished their grandchildren and she continued to travel with friends after her husband’s death. A new blessing in her life was the birth of great grandchildren with whom she loved to spend time.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2014 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Harkins Funeral Home, Inc., Delta, PA where the service will begin at 11 a.m. led by Reverend Richard J. Link of the First Presbyterian Church of Bel Air.

Interment will be in Fawn Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, her family would appreciate memorial contributions to the Historical Society of Harford County, 143 N. Main Street, Bel Air, MD 21014; the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675; First Presbyterian Church of Bel Air, 224 North Main Street, Bel Air, MD 21014 or to a charity of your choice.

Pallbearers will be James McFadden, Robert McFadden, Michael Smith, Scott Sewell, Joseph DuBree and Christopher DuBree.
