Life Story for Darius D. Barlow

Darius D.  Barlow
DARIUS D. BARLOW, age 79 of Jarrettsville, MD, died on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, MD. Married on May 30, 1985, he and his wife, Brenda L. (Bowles) Barlow had shared 29 years of marriage. Darius was the husband of Elaine (Sutton) Barlow until the time of her death in 1984.

Born in Richmond, VA on November 12, 1935, he was a son of the late Alden H. and Jossie A. (Blackburn) Barlow and a graduate of Bel Air High School. Mr. Barlow was a U.S. Army veteran serving from September 1958 – August 1960 with overseas deployment in Germany. Following his time with the armed forces, he worked for the former Bata Shoe Company for 17 years and retired in 1998 from the Harford County Government - Department of Public Works after 25 years of dedicated service.

Mr. Barlow was an avid reader enjoying science fiction books and was a Star Trek fan. He enjoyed yard work and followed the Baltimore Orioles.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by:

Candace Barlow of Aberdeen, MD

Six stepchildren-
Sammy Dandy, Jr. and his wife, Zina of Sykesville, MD
Terry Dandy of Fawn Grove, PA
Tony Dandy and his wife, Vickie of Dallastown, PA
Cynthia Dandy-Smith and her husband, Greg of Red Lion
Troy Dandy and his wife, April of Airville, PA
Tammy Dandy-Feyerherm of Stewartstown, PA

Eighteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

A brother, John D. Barlow of Maumelle, Arkansas.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Matulevich.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 5, 2014 from 1 to 2 p.m. followed immediately with the funeral service at 2 p.m. at Harkins Funeral Home, 600 Main Street, Delta, PA.

Reverend John W. Manry of North Harford Baptist Church will officiate.

Interment with military honors will be in Slate Ridge Cemetery, Delta, PA.

In lieu of flowers, his family would appreciate memorial contributions to North Harford Baptist Church, 4008 Old Federal Hill Road, Jarrettsville, MD 21084.
