Life Story for Sonya Dawn Whiteford Hall

SONYA DAWN (WHITEFORD) HALL, age 76 of Selbyville, DE, passed away on Friday, January 23, 2015 at the Senator Bob Hooper Hospice House in Forest Hill, MD. She was the wife of Charles Bruce Hall and at the time of his death on November 27, 2009, they had shared 49 years of marriage.

Born on February 1, 1938 in Cardiff, MD, she was a daughter of the late Theron Day and Orlene (Gross) Whiteford. Graduating from North Harford High School of Pylesville, MD in 1956, she was a member of the first group of students to complete grades 7 through 12 in the new school. After continuing her education at the Goldey-Beacom School of Business in Wilmington, DE, Sonya was employed in various secretarial and administrative positions. She worked in private industry in addition to the U.S. Government at various locations where her late husband was assigned during his career with the U.S. Air Force. Retiring in 1995, Sonya worked 19 years for the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) in Washington, D.C where she was the recipient of the DIA Exceptional Civilian Service Medal and the DIA Director’s Award.

Throughout her career and in retirement, Sonya traveled extensively in the U.S. as well as overseas. She stayed in touch with many of her school classmates, enjoying memories and their friendships throughout her years. She and her late husband were known to enjoy taking motorcycle trips together. A 60 year member of Slate Ridge Presbyterian Church in Cardiff, MD, Sonya attended The River, A Wesleyan Church in Roxanna, DE.

She is survived by:

Gregory Scott Whiteford of Whiteford, MD

A sister, Martha Ellen Reed and her husband, Donald of Carlsbad, NM

A brother-in-law, Ronald C. Hall and his wife, Dorothy of Venice, FL
