Obituary for Martha Harkins Glasgow

Martha Harkins  Glasgow
MARTHA HARKINS GLASGOW, 84 years of Street, MD, died on Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at Hart Heritage Estate in Forest Hill, MD. She was the wife of Charles W. Glasgow, Jr. and at the time of his death in December 2006, they had shared 54 years of marriage.

Born on July 24, 1931 in the Chestnut Hill Area of Forest Hill, MD, she was a daughter of the late E. Irving and Bernice (Greene) Harkins and a longtime member of Emory United Methodist Church where she was active in the United Methodist Women and served on the board of trustees. Mrs. Glasgow had worked for Harford Mutual Insurance Company in Bel Air and as a bookkeeper/secretary for the former D.S. Stubbs Company for 28 ½ years. Mrs. Glasgow was a former board member of the Highland Community Association from its inception and served for many years as its treasurer.

Mrs. Glasgow truly had a love of agriculture and was a member of the state and national Holstein Associations as well as the Harford County Holstein Association where she held the office of treasurer for many years. Additional office responsibilities were held in numerous agricultural organizations including 19 years as treasurer for the former Dublin-Darlington Coop., a milk hauling company, until the business was sold. A Maryland 4-H All Star herself, Mrs. Glasgow donated her time and talents as a 4-H club leader for nearly 20 years helping to encourage the love of farming in local youth members.

A lady with endless kindness, Mrs. Glasgow had been a devoted caregiver for her late husband as well as many members of her family including her father; mother; sister, Verna; brother, Donald; brother Harold and his wife, Ann; and her father-in-law, Charles W. Glasgow, Sr.

She is survived by:
A sister-in-law, Margaret Harkins (widow of Edgar I. Harkins) of Whiteford, MD

Mrs. Glasgow is also survived by numerous great, great-great and great-great-great nieces and nephews.

Visitations will be held on Sunday, August 2, 2015 from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Harkins Funeral Home, 600 Main Street, Delta, PA.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, the 3rd at Emory United Methodist Church, 911 Cherry Hill Road, Street, MD beginning at 11 a.m.

Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Thomas Galbreath, Edgar Harkins, George Harkins, James Harkins, John Harkins, Leland Harkins, Ronald Harkins and Walter Johnson.

Honorary Pallbearers will be William Scott and Kurt Zulauf.
