Life Story for Catherine G. Wiley

Catherine G.  Wiley
CATHERINE G. WILEY, age 88 years, formerly of Delta, PA died on Thursday evening, August 6, 2015 at Oak Leaf Manor in Millersville, PA. She was the wife of the late C. Edward Wiley.

Mrs. Wiley was born in Mercer County, West Virginia on April 11, 1927, a daughter of the late William Ernest and Myrtle (Hirt) Thomas. Her family moved to Delta when she was in her teens, where she graduated from Delta High School in 1946. She was employed for many years as an executive secretary at Aberdeen Proving Ground, from which she retired. Catherine was a longtime active member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the John S. Murphy Post #7130, V.F.W., Delta. Mrs. Wiley as a member of the Emory United Methodist Church in Street, MD.

She is survived by:
Her son; Richard C. Smithson of South Dennis, MA

Two step daughters; Rachel A. Swearington and Deborah Yonce

A granddaughter; Nikki Smithson Ratledge

Nieces and nephews; Frank Bedwell, Sandra Bedwell, Millie Wilson, Sherry Farrington, Ernest Waters and Myrtle Morris.

She was preceded in death by her siblings; Anna Bedwell, Roy Thomas, Laura Bedwell and Maude Delp

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Emory United Methodist Church, 911 Cherry Hill Road, Street, MD with Reverend Dr. Kathleen S. Lossa officiating.

There will not be any public inurnment services. A luncheon will follow in the church social hall.
