Life Story for Alice A. Bowen

Alice was born in Lyndhurst, N.J. on September 15, 1922 and was the daughter of the late Frank and Lilian (Larder) Williams. After graduating from Jefferson High School, Alice worked for the Prudential Insurance Company. Married on August 29, 1942, she and her late husband, Bill moved to Baltimore where he began working as a licensed mechanic and inspector for the former Glen L. Martin airplane factory. Bill had tried to enlist in the U.S. Navy, but was turned down because of his job. Later, he was drafted into the U.S Army Air Corps and served until the end of WWII.

Alice enjoyed traveling and camping with her hubby in their pickup camper; one year they traveled the country as far as the West Coast before returning home. Alice loved to crochet as the many members of her family can testify having received the products of her work. She and Bill also volunteered, with Alice serving as a Cub Scout den leader and Altar Guild president at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church. While living in Deer Park, N.Y., she served as a hospital volunteer at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip, N.Y. Upon Bill’s retirement from TWA, they moved to Homassa, FL., where both Alice and Bill volunteered as crime watchers driving a county vehicle around in their duties.
