Life Story for Betty E. Findley

Betty E.  Findley
BETTY ELLEN FINDLEY, age 72, of Darlington, MD, passed away on June 27, 2016 at Forest Hill Health and Rehabilitation Center in Forest Hill, MD. Born in Havre de Grace, MD, she was the daughter of the late James Bernard Dayhoof, Sr. and Beulah Mitchell Dayhoof. After graduating from Bel Air High School, Betty began working for the former Bata Shoe Company in Belcamp. She married Donald Heizer, had one daughter, Rebecca Ann, and began her life-long career as a school bus driver. Her marriage to Donald ended. Later, Betty married Walter Findley, Sr. and continued to work as a school bus driver in their bus contractor business completing 49 years as a school bus driver transporting Harford County Public Schools' students.

Betty loved spending time in her kitchen where baking was her specialty. She had a reputation for providing the best desserts at functions she attended. She enjoyed time with her family, reading, working word searches and finding the bargains offered by QVC. She had a big heart and shared many of those bargains with family and friends.

Betty was a member of Churchville Presbyterian Church and for many years sang in the choir where she shared her beautiful alto voice. She also was a member and served as past treasurer of both the Harford County School Bus Drivers Association and the Maryland School Bus Contractors Association.

Betty is survived by her husband, Walter Findley, Sr. of Darlington, MD; stepdaughters, Winifred Findley of Street, MD; Mary Hooper (Gene) of Bel Air, MD; Bobbie Jean Findley of Winfield, KS; stepsons, Walter Findley, Jr. (Edith) of Darlington, MD; John Findley of Towson, MD; sister, Roxanne Burton of Churchville, MD; grandchildren: Emily Kropkowski and Zachary Kropkowski of Bel Air, MD; and a step grandchild, Shannon Welford of Whiteford, MD. She is also survived by Susan Anderson Browning of Pylesville, MD, a very special friend to both Betty and Becky.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her daughter, Rebecca Kropkowski; her younger brother, Larry Dayhoof; his wife, Marlee; her older brother, J. Bernard Dayhoof, Jr.; his wife, Joanne and her brother-in-law, John Burton.

The graveside service will take place at Churchville Presbyterian Church on Thursday, June 30, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Dr. Stephen Melton officiating.
