Helen M.  Whiteford
HELEN M. WHITEFORD, 100 years of Whiteford, MD, died on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at Dacota Broad Creek Assisted Living in Whiteford, MD. Born on January 31, 1916 in Pylesville, MD, she was a daughter of the late Harry Turner and Lydia (Bailey) McCallister. Helen was the wife of the late W. Lester “Jack” Whiteford, who passed in 1974.

A lifetime resident of the Whiteford area, she worked for former McCorquodale Color Card Company in Whiteford, MD (1960-1976) and former D&D Sewing Factory in Delta, PA. Helen was proud of her faith and was an active member since 1958 of Slate Ridge Presbyterian Church where she had served as a deacon. Helen had been active in her community and was named “Harford County Living Treasure” in 2010. When she wasn’t serving the community or her church, she could be found growing her roses that she loved so much or entertaining her family and friends.

She is survived by:
Her son Leslie E. Whiteford and his wife, Janet, of Whiteford, MD

Two siblings:
Harry T. McCallister of Pylesville, MD
Florence L. Ford of York, PA

Her granddaughter, Melissa W. St. Clair and her husband, Colonel Matt St. Clair, USMC, of Beaufort, SC

Numerous nieces and nephews

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Carol D. Whiteford and her sister, Eleanor Gehr.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 from 6-8 p.m. at Harkins Funeral Home, 600 Main Street, Delta, PA. The funeral service will be held at Slate Ridge Presbyterian Church, 1630 Chestnut Street, Cardiff, MD 21160 on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Reverend Kenneth Osborne will officiate.

Interment will be in Fawn Grove Cemetery, Fawn Grove, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Slate Ridge Presbyterian Church, at the above address.
