Life Story for Reverend Johnnie Snipes, III

Reverend Johnnie  Snipes, III
REVEREND JOHNNIE “TIGER” SNIPES, III, was born in Opelika, AL to the late George and Lillie Snipes. Reverend Snipes received his early education in the school systems of Opelika, AL; while serving his country, his furthered his education obtaining an Associate Degree. An accomplished artist, Reverend Snipes loved to draw different subjects.

During his service with the U.S. Air Force, he was assigned to the Dover Air Force Base in Dover, DE where he met and married Gloria Morris nearly 50 years ago and to this union, they were blessed with their only child, the late Reverend Migonne’ E. Snipes. Reverend Snipes traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and the world, receiving accommodations medals for his expertise and service. After serving 27 years, he was honorably discharged.

Pastor Snipes loved to cook, eat and barbecue, especially for Migonne’s Fourth of July family and friends gatherings and the former historical Salisbury District Barbecues held at Silver Lake Park in Dover, DE. His favorite food was fish.

Reverend Snipes pastored Trinity A.M.E. Zion Church in Delta, PA for 17 years, traveling faithfully every week from his home in Dover, DE to Delta, PA. He loved pastoring his parishioners, and while he was assigned to Trinity, he was always on time with his assessments. His favorite Connectional Meeting was the Christian Education Mid-Winter Meeting. He loved traveling to various cities and states.

After his health began to fail, he retired from the pastoral ministry and joined Scott A.M.E. Zion Church, attending whenever his health permitted. After his health continued to fail and was unable to attend church, he never failed to send his tithes and offerings each week.

Services were held on December 31, 2016 at Scott A.M.E. Zion Church in Wilmington, DE. Bishop W. Darin Moore and Bishop Dennis V. Proctor presided with a special musical selection by the Trinity A.M.E. Zion church choir.

Interment will full military honors, military pallbearers, gun volley and ceremonial folding of the U.S. Flag will be held in Delaware Veterans Cemetery, Bear, DE at a future date.

Harkins Funeral Home was honored to assist Dr. Gloria Snipes with his arrangements. The obituary was created by his wife, Dr. Snipes.
