Life Story for Okie Clate Hammons

Okie Clate  Hammons
OKIE CLATE HAMMONS, 76 years of Street, MD, died on Monday, February 13, 2017 in Upper Chesapeake Medical Center. Bel Air, MD. Married on August 21, 1977, he was the beloved husband of Bonnie Lou (Jones) Hammons, and they shared 39 years of marriage.

Born on March 9, 1940 in West Virginia, he was a son of the late Mason and Hattie Hammons. A skilled brick mason, Okie was self-employed working on various construction locations. A nationally renowned breeder, his UKC beagles were in demand. He enjoyed hunting and was a member of the Raccoon Club of Maryland. Okie raised and cared for his chickens as well as an avid gardener. A devoted husband and family man, he loved to cook and prepared the evening meal every day.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by:

Buck Hammons of Elkton, MD
Kenneth Hammons of Cecil Co., MD
Connie Carrillo of Darlington, MD
Louie Mullens of Street, MD
Deborah Walther of Whiteford, MD
Beverly Wessel of Bel Air, MD
Pamela Ross of Bel Air, MD

Siblings-Carl, Theda, Iantha, Helen and Marge.

Twenty grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa McMillan in 2012 and David Mullens in 1980.

Visitations will be held on Sunday, February 19, 2017 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Harkins Funeral Home, 600 Main Street, Delta, PA and from 11 a.m. to noon on Monday, the 20th. Funeral services will follow at noon with interment in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Pylesville, MD.

Funeral staff will be outside during all services to assist with parking as well as handicap needs.
