Obituary for Cecil Edward Grasham

Cecil Edward Grasham
Cecil E. (Ed) Grasham, age 89 of Street, Maryland, passed away on February 21, 2017 surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Faye M Grasham, with whom he shared 64 years of marriage. Born in Wise, Virginia, he was the son of the late Carl Leslie and Maude (Walker) Grasham.

Ed served in the United States Navy, in the Pacific Theater, during World War II, aboard the USS Shasta AE3 ammunition ship. Although his family was very proud of his service, Ed only spoke of his service to his country in a matter-of-fact, humble way- as is typical of the “Greatest Generation.”

Ed retired as an inspector from the Town of Aberdeen, Maryland and pursued his passion for providing for his family as a gentleman farmer, raising beef and vegetables as well as cooking, canning and woodworking/ antique restoration.

Ed is survived by his children, Michael E. Grasham of Street, Leslie A. Jacobs and husband Robert of Millersville, Valerie L. Wasserman and husband Donald of Street; Grandchildren, Erin Elizabeth, Amanda Faye, and Jordan Leslie; Great Grandchildren, Michael, Madlin, Hendry, Eve, Colin, Evelyn, and Kellen. Ed was preceded in death by his grandson Paul M. Grasham.

Ed was one of nine children and is survived by his sister Ruth A. Turner of Shrewsbury, Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Nell, Millie, Shirley, and brothers Leslie, Paul, William, and James.
Ed loved and was cared for by John L. Grasham of Forest Hill, George S. Krause of Street, Tina J. DiMarino of Street, Anne Marie Wright of Millersville, and Kathleen M. Ross of Parkton.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at 1:00pm, with burial of Ed and Faye immediately following. Services will be held at Emory United Methodist Church, 911 Cherry Hill Road, Street, Maryland 21154.
