Obituary for Betty Rae Burchette

BETTY RAE (SMITH) BURCHETTE, 79, of Port Deposit, MD passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2019 surrounded by her loved ones at Christiana Hospital, Newark, DE. She was the beloved wife of the late Clay D. Burchette and at the time of his passing in 2003, they had been married for 48 years.

Born June 2, 1940 in Piney Creek, NC, Betty was a daughter of the late Dwight L. and Wilma M. (Hill) Smith. For 30 years she worked as the food service manager for Harford County Public Schools. Betty went on to work at Wawa for 4 years, becoming a familiar face to many. A love for baking, Betty was well known for her coconut cream pie. Strong in her faith, Betty loved to sing and was the choir leader at Trinity Free Will Baptist Church for many years. She also sang at Pleasant View Baptist Church, where she was on the praise and worship team and a member of the funeral committee. A legacy of love, Betty cared deeply for her family and friends. Her bubbly personality and laugh will be truly missed.

She is survived by;

One sister, Shirley Sells of Mouth of Wilson, VA
One brother, Clifford Smith of Piney Creek, N.C.

Anita S. Cox of Conowingo, MD
Charity H. Davis of Perryville, MD
Craig D. Wagg of Conowingo, MD

Seven great grandchildren;
Ashton, Noah and Mahayla Cox; Lahna, Taylor, Clayre and Everleigh Davis

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Pleasant View Baptist Church, 150 Downin Ln, Port Deposit, MD 21904 where the funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2019 at 11 a.m. Dr. Harold Phillips will be officiating with interment at Darlington Cemetery, Darlington, MD.
