Obituary for Michael E. Gerick, III

Michael E. Gerick, III; age 61 years of Delta, PA died at 5:26 pm on Sunday, November 24, 2019 at the Senator Bob Hooper House in Forest Hill, MD after a courageous battle with cancer. Mike was born on May 19, 1958 in Baltimore, MD a son of the late Michael Edward “Mickey” and Mary Antoinette (Modesto) Gerick. He graduated from John Carroll High School in Bel Air in 1976. The lessons learned while attending the Boy Scout Troop #400 in Delta stayed with him throughout his entire life. Mike was known as a person who was always “eager to help others” whether it was for his family, friends or his community. For family dinners, Mike could always be counted on for his custom Italian dishes, whenever a friend was in need, he was there.
He had served as a volunteer EMT for the Delta-Cardiff Volunteer Fire Company and was a member of the Sons of the American Legion, Squadron 182, Whiteford, MD. Mike, always with a smile on his face, made everyone feel welcomed and shared his kind spirit everywhere he went.

Mike learned the craft of ceramic tile flooring with his dad and had worked with him for many years in their business known as Mickey & Sons. He took the time to enjoy life and to listen to Elton John music, his favorite. He will be missed by the community, a host of friends and his family.

Sarah M. Gerick of Lewes, DE

A sister, Michele M. Layton and her husband, Joseph of Delta, PA

A brother, Mark E. Gerick and his wife, Alice of Pylesville, MD

Three grandchildren: Preston, Jacob and Jayden Johnson

Visitations will be held on Wednesday, November 27th from 3-5 and 7-9 at the Harkins Funeral Home, 600 Main Street, Delta, PA.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on FRIDAY, November 29, 2019 in St. Mary Catholic Parish, 1021 St. Mary’s Road, Pylesville, MD with Reverend A. Henry Kunkel, III as celebrant. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
