Obituary for Betty Jane Heaps

BETTY JANE HEAPS, 86 of Street, MD, died on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 in her home. She was the loving wife of the late Orion Turner Heaps and at the time of his death in July of 1997, they had shared over 45 years of marriage.

Born on June 15, 1936 in the Rocks area of Harford County, MD, she was a daughter of the late Roy William Ayers and Dorothy Lee (Tracey) Ayers. A lifetime resident of Harford County, Betty graduated from North Harford High School in 1954.

Betty was a homemaker, cared for her family, loved to bake, cook and found great joy in preparing for holiday celebrations. She enjoyed family camping trips to the beach, especially going to Chincoteague. One of her favorite events was attending the Strawberry Festival in Plant City, FL while vacationing in the state. She adored children and would attend little league games to cheer on the family members. In addition, bowling was a favorite pastime as well as taking walks. She was a member of New Beginnings Baptist Church in Peach Bottom, PA and was active in church events. She also cherished her time as a volunteer at Bel Air Health and Rehab. Her bright smile and kind spirit will be missed.

A sister, Mildred Williams (Howard) of Hollywood, SC and a brother, Fred Ayers (Thelma) of Jarrettsville, MD

Timothy Arron Heaps (Amanda) of Elkton, MD

Two great grandchildren-
Haisley and Maverick Heaps

Two sisters preceded her in death: Helen Crouse and Joyce Hamilton in addition to her stepfather, Lawrence Hamilton.

A viewing will be held on Monday, August 15, 2022 from 11 – 12 p.m. at Harkins Funeral Home, 600 Main Street, Delta, PA followed immediately with the funeral service at noon with Reverend Jim Cochran of Louisville Bible Church, Finksburg, MD officiating. Interment will follow in Slate Ridge Cemetery, Delta, PA.
