Obituary for Charles Joseph "Joe" Martin

CHARLES JOSEPH MARTIN, JR., 87 of Forest Hill, MD, died peacefully in his home on Monday, August 29, 2022 with his beloved wife of 52 years, Nancy Louise (Lyons) Martin and his son, Jeffrey at his side. Born on August 15, 1935 at home on the family farm in Forest Hill, he was one of eight children born to the late Charles Joseph Martin and Lilace M. (Vaught) Martin. Joe spent most of his lifetime on the family farm. He worked as a dairy farmer in Forest Hill followed by the Hickory area and finally in Pylesville, MD. After his dairy career ended, he worked 46 years as a construction foreman for Forest Hill Construction beginning December 1, 1970 and retiring on December 31, 2016. He worked with his brother Bob to build and develop the Forest Hill Industrial Airpark.

Joe was known as an avid outdoorsman, loved to hunt, fish, enjoyed gardening and found great satisfaction in cutting and splitting firewood. In addition, he had been a truck farmer and his wife and son would take the vegetables to Baltimore to the market. He loved to read the Baltimore Sun daily and was known to his family and friends as a hardworking man. It was very important to Joe to provide and care for his family.

In conclusion, his son reflected on his father’s life with these words, “If you could put all the work that Joe Martin accomplished in one pile, ten men could not match it.” His dedication to family and love of nature will be missed.
