Obituary for Edna Pauline Maines

Edna Pauline Maines, 89, of Street, MD, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, October 13, 2022 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, in Bel Air, MD. Edna was born on April 7, 1933 in Madonna, MD to her late parents, Calvin T. and Bertie Jane (Blevins) Cox. She shared 48 devoted years of marriage with her late husband, Hobert Kyle Maines prior to his death in 1998.

Together, Kyle and Edna made a home in Street. She was a devoted and supportive spouse and mother. She met the challenge of being married to a truck driver with grace and fortitude. When her beloved Kyle was away, every day at four o’clock she “cleared the party line” so he could make a call home. She took great pride in her home and was a marvelous cook. When not caring for her family, friends or strangers, Edna enjoyed sitting on her front porch, watching hummingbirds, enjoying her flowers and living a humble lifestyle.

She will be remembered as the best mother and granny. She had a servant's heart; always willing to offer whatever she had to those in need, whether family, friend or stranger. Other’s needs were always placed before her own. She loved the Lord and attended recently Trinity Free Will Baptist Church, in Darlington, MD as well as Welcome Home Free Will Baptist in Bel Air and for years was a devoted saint to Bel View Free Will Baptist Church in Delta, PA. Her strength was a beacon for all who knew her. She was diagnosed, battled and overcame a breast cancer diagnosis in her 80’s.

Edna is survived by four children: David F. (Carolyn) Maines, of Darlington, MD, Linda J. (Clipper) Aldrich, of Mt. Airy, NC, Barbara A. (David) Dowell, of Street, MD and Connie P. (Donny) Hensley, of Street, MD. Edna will be lovingly missed by 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 14 great great-grandchildren.

In addition to her late husband and parents, Edna was predeceased by her nine siblings and one grandchild, David Kyle Maines.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2022 from 12-2 p.m. at Trinity Free Will Baptist Church, 3414 Cedar Church Road, Darlington, MD. A funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. at the church with her Pastor, Mark A. Rudd officiating. Burial will immediately follow the funeral at Darlington Cemetery, Darlington, MD.

Harkins Funeral Home, Inc., of Delta, PA, has been entrusted with arrangements.
