Obituary for Ellis Crowl

ELLIS CROWL, 81, died on Thursday, April 22, 2021 in Lancaster General Hospital. Married on June 28, 1958, he was the beloved husband of Joyce L. (Kilgore) Crowl with whom he had shared 62 years of marriage. A lifetime resident of Airville, he was the oldest of five children born to the late George C. Crowl and Edith E. (Bender) Crowl. Ellis attended the former Center One Room School for 3 ½ years followed by graduating in 1957 from the former Lower Chanceford Township High School.

Ellis spent his entire lifetime on the family farm on McCalls Ferry Road known as Joy-El in Airville where five generations of the Crowl Family have milked cows and farmed the land. Ellis was very active in the agricultural industry belonging to the Farm Bureau since he was 18, past president of the York County Farm Bureau Board for 7 years, member of the PA Farm Bureau Board for 8 years and member of the York County Conservation District Board for 18 years where he had served as chairman for 10 years. He was a member of the Airville 4-H Club for 10 years and supported his family in showing their prize Milking Shorthorn cattle at numerous shows and fairs.

Ellis could always be seen supporting the local Airville Volunteer Fire Company where he had served for 60 years and was a board member for over 40 years. He also served as an Emergency Management Committee coordinator for several years.

Community and church were important to Ellis and he had served on the Lower Chanceford Zoning Board where he was presently an alternate member and was a former boy scout and scout leader. Ellis was a 60 plus year member of Salem United Methodist Church of Delta, PA where he had served as a youth leader for 6 years and helped with church events and activities.

Ellis and his wife, Joyce enjoyed square dancing which they shared for numerous years. Farming the land, milking the cows, caring for his family, serving his community, sharing his smile and kind spirit were his strong points and his dedication and love will be missed.

Five grandchildren-Carlyn Crowl Carbaugh (Craig); Carissa Crowl, Casidee Crowl, Carson Crowl and Carter Myers.

Three great grandchildren-
Alivia, Adalynne and Tate

He was preceded in death by two siblings: Margie Mayberry and Vinten Crowl.

A viewing will be held on Monday, April 26th from 7-9 p.m. at Harkins Funeral Home, 600 Main Street, Delta, PA. Parking will be available at the area around the funeral home as well as on both lots of Half-Price Hardware located directly across the street from the funeral home.

Tuesday, funeral services will be held on the family Joy-El Farm, 476 McCalls Ferry Road, Airville, PA beginning at 11 a.m. Airville VFC Fire Police will be on sight to assist with parking and instructions. Officiating will be his pastor, Deanna Johnson of Salem UMC. Interment will follow in Salem Cemetery.
