Obituary for Ethel Burchett Sexton
ETHEL BURCHETT SEXTON, 90 of Darlington, MD, died on Friday, February 3, 2023 in the Senator Bob Hooper Hospice of Forest Hill, MD. Born on May 12, 1932 in Glade Springs, VA, she was one of eight children born to the late Charles Christopher Bowles and Rhoda Elizabeth (Taylor) Bowles and a graduate of Red Lion Area Senior High School in 1950.
Ethel had worked for the former Bata Shoe Company in Belcamp, MD and then enjoyed being in the home caring for her family. She enjoyed camping, crabbing, and was known to make the most tasty crab omelets and crab cakes. Ethel treasured her family and friends as well as her church family at Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church where she had been a longtime member. On Sunday mornings, she could always be found greeting folks as they would arrive with her beautiful smile and kind spirit. She was strong in her Christian faith and was very involved in church activities.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, William Gene Burchett, Sr., in July 1992 and Robert E. Sexton in October 2013. Ethel, a bit of a romantic, had married both of her husbands on Valentine’s Day.

Eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren
Also preceding her in death was her son, Donald L. Burchett in May 2021 and siblings: Carl, George and Glenn Bowles.
Services will be held on Friday, February 10, 2023 at Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church, 3135 Dublin Road, Street, MD 21154 with her pastor, Reverend Tracy J. Duvall officiating. Interment will follow in Dublin Southern Cemetery, Deerfield Road, Darlington. A luncheon to follow in the church social hall.
In lieu of flowers, her family would appreciate memorial contributions to her church at the above address.
