Obituary for Hazel D. Thompson

HAZEL D. THOMPSON, of Red Lion, formerly of Delta, PA died on Sunday April 3, 2022 in Seaton Springwood, York, PA. She was the beloved wife of Donald Kilgore Thompson who died on September 4, 1995.

A member of a very elite group, Hazel celebrated her 100th birthday this past January 4th. Hazel was born to the late Robert Julene Draper and Almyrta (McKinnon) Draper and graduated from the former Slate Ridge High School. Hazel lived from the early days of radios in homes, early times of family cars, the dedication of the Lincoln Memorial to cell phones, being able to send information internationally in a split second, electric cars and personal missions to space. She was recognized with a personal citation from Pennsylvania Governor Thomas Wolf on her 100th birthday. In her earlier years, Hazel worked at the York County Voter Registration Office.

Hazel originally worshipped at Slateville Presbyterian Church until her marriage to Donald and then joined his church where she remained a member of Slate Ridge Presbyterian Church. She was very active in church events and activities including serving as a deacon, choir member and with the Women’s Association.

A homemaker and farm wife, Hazel cared for her family, grew beautiful flowers in her gardens, enjoyed sewing having learned on a treadle machine that the family still keeps as a family treasure. All who knew Hazel will remember her for her delightful conversations, kind smile and dedication as a mother and grandmother.

W. Ralph Draper and his wife, Theresa of Baltimore, MD

Two grandchildren-
Nathan G. Thompson and his daughter, Abagail of Irwin, PA
Danielle Clifford and her husband, Michael of Hirum, GA

Six great grandchildren-Michael, III; Isabella, Haleigh, Natalie and Joshua and many loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by-

A celebration of life service will be held on Monday, April 11, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Slate Ridge Presbyterian Church, 1630 Chestnut Street, Cardiff, MD with Reverend Kenneth Osborne, Reverend James Shuler and Reverend Eric Dorville co-officiating.

Private inurnment services will be held for the family in Slate Ridge Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial contributions be made to Slate Ridge Presbyterian Church at the above address.
