Obituary for Joanne R. McVan

JOANNE RITA MCVAN, 87 years of Whiteford, MD, cherished mother, grandmother and sister, passed away on Monday, October 10, 2022 in Autumn Lake Healthcare @ Waugh Chapel, Gambrills, MD. She had been the devoted wife for 59 years of Thomas Joseph McVan, Sr. who preceded her in death in December 2018.

Born on May 23, 1935 in Girardville, PA, she was one of three daughters of the late John Klein and Rita Brennan Klein and a graduate of Hallahan Girls High School in Philadelphia, PA. While living in Philadelphia, she worked as a bookkeeper for the Women’s Medical College/Hospital for ten years. When her sons were born, she chose to be a stay at home mother caring for the needs of her family and the home. Joanne loved to read, especially mystery novels and suspense books. Watching Alfred Hitchcock movies were a favorite as well as attempting to become an at-home Family Feud champion.

Later in life, Joanne accepted a job with the former Fallston Hospital in Fallston, MD and worked on the staff until 1999 when the hospital was closed upon the completion of Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, MD. Joanne was a longtime member of St. Mary, Pylesville Catholic Parish and thoroughly enjoyed the tight knit community of friends on Tilley Drive in Whiteford.

She is survived by:
Two sons-
John McVan and his wife, Renee of Sewell, NJ
Tom McVan, Jr. and his wife, Becky of Rock Hall, MD

A sister, Betty Greco and her husband, Chuck of Reston, VA

Six grandchildren-Conor McVan, Emily McVan, Patrick McVan, Kiernan McVan, Aiden McVan, Tess McVan and a great grandson, Finley McVan.

Her sister, Rita Troilo passed before her.

Visitation with her family will be held on Friday, October 14, 2022 from 10:30 – 11:30 at Harkins Funeral Home, 600 Main Street, Delta, PA with the Celebration of Life Service at 11:30 a.m. Deacon Phillip Seneschal of St. Mary, Pylesville Catholic Parish will officiate.
