JOSEPHINE B. GLACKIN, Matriarch of the family and loved dearly by family, extended family, friends and everyone who met her, passed peacefully on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 in her home with her family at her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Vernon Glackin, Sr. and was born on July 31, 1924 in Delta Township; she was one of four daughters born to the late Joseph Oscar Beard and Lilly May Bennington Beard.

Jodie, as she was known, spent her lifetime in the Delta area, graduating from the former Delta High School in 1942 and continued her education with her degree in English from the Thompson Business Center. She married the love of her life, Vernon, in May of 1944. Together they owned and operated and Jodie was the bookkeeper at Glackin’s Central Service Station on Main Street, Delta from 1950 until 1964 when they sold the property. In 1960, they built the current Glackin’s Highway Service Station on Rt. 74 where the third generation of the family continues this tradition of auto repair.

Jodie loved music and was a talented pianist playing by ear as well as notes. She often accompanied her late husband’s barber shop quartet, entertained many residents at senior centers as well as many family members and friends. She was quite the “lady” always dressed very fashionable with her hair done to perfection. She was loving, kind and had a sweet personality; she loved to write poetry and kept books of her work.

Jodie was dedicated to her faith in God, she worshipped at St. Mary Catholic Parish since 1944. She enjoyed church activities and found great comfort in her faith and has been joined by five generations to worship in this church. After a stay at Country Meadows, York, PA, Jodie was able to return to her home for the final chapter of her life and live with her son, David and his wife, Margaret.
