Leona M. Smith, 88, of Delta, PA, died at home on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. Leona was born In York County, PA to her late parents, Hugh Albert and Frances (Burkins) Krick. She was the beloved wife to Robert E. Smith, with whom she shared 68 years of marriage this past May.
She graduated from the former Delta High School in 1952, serving as the class vice-president. Leona worked in the Security Department at Aberdeen Proving Ground. She commuted to work daily for 37 years with her best friend, her loving husband. Her most treasured time was spent as being a wife and mother. She was a kind and compassionate woman; who made a friend with everyone, even a stranger. She loved traveling, even though when she arrived she was always ready to return home.
Leona was very active in the life of her church, Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church where she and Robert are members. She sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, served the United Methodist Women as President, helped with Vacation Bible School and served as the treasurer of the Cemetery Association. She was also a township representative for Mason-Dixon Community Services.
In addition to her loving husband, Leona is survived by one son, Dennis R. (Sherry) Smith, of Delta, PA and one sister, Erma Beard, also of Delta, PA.
She was predeceased by her parents and one sister, Dorothy Stewart.
The family would like to say thank you to the nursing staff of Heartland Hospice for the compassionate care they provided to Leona. A special word of thanks to “the girls” as she would affectionately call them, Kelly and Tina.
