Obituary for Lydia Elaine Vickers

On the eve of Christmas, 2022; LYDIA ELAINE VICKERS, 82 of Delta, PA passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family. Lydia was born and raised in her current home in Delta, to her late parents Raymond W. & Janet “Netta” (McTaggart) Cantler.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years John H Vickers, two sisters: Margaret “Peggy” Johnson of York, PA and Isabelle Coley of Lawton, OK. Three children: John H. Vickers (Dawn) of Airville, PA; Judy Barlow (Gary) of Whiteford, MD; Jeff Vickers (Sharon) of Delta. Seven grandchildren: Bobbi Jo Martinez (Joe), Sara Vickers (Warren), Nelson Vickers (Sherry), Jared Vickers (Alex), Kevin Barlow (Ellie), Adam Barlow (Caitlin) and Scott Wilson (Kelly). Six great grandchildren: Chris Eberly, Joey Martinez, Paris Vickers: Leah, Thomas and George Wilson and numerous loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a beautiful great granddaughter Ellidy Mae Barlow, seven brothers and three sisters: Walter (Bud), Bill, George, Ron, Roger, Stan, Leslie Cantler: Helen Lynch, Janet Sowards and Glenda Smith.

Lydia attended Kennard Dale High School and received her Cosmetology License in 1965. She opened Lydia’s Beauty Shop bringing style to many for the next 55 years before she retired due to illness. Lydia loved her customers and many became lifelong friends. In the 1970's, Lydia came to work with Harkins Funeral Home where she tenderly prepared hair styles for many loved ones. She had a unique talent where she could just look at the haircut and create beautiful styles that brought much comfort to the mourning families. Harkins is very grateful for her 30 plus years of dedication.

In addition to doing hair, she loved gardening, crafts, cooking, but above all else she loved the Lord Jesus Christ and her family. Lydia became a member of the Fawn Grove Church of the Nazarene when services were held in a little building in Fawn Grove. She helped build the church as it is now in Pylesville, MD just below the Mason-Dixon Line. She was a Sunday School Teacher for 55 years and did many activities with the teens of the church.

Services will be held at the Fawn Grove Church of the Nazarene, 5300 Fawn Grove, Road, Pylesville, MD 21132 with a viewing on Friday, December 30th from 6 – 8 p.m. and the funeral Saturday at 10 a.m. with Pastor Jonathan Batchelder officiating. Interment immediately following service at the Slate Ridge Cemetery. The family wishes to invite everyone for a time of sharing memories and refreshments in the fellowship hall of the church. In lieu of flowers, her family would appreciate memorial contributions to the church.
