Obituary for Mabel Caroline Johnston
Mabel Caroline Johnston, 87, of Aberdeen, MD, died at Stella Maris Hospice Center on Tuesday, February 15, 2022. Mabel was born in Covington, VA to her late parents, George and Cora (DePriest) Vance and was married to the love of her life, the late Robert Johnston.
Mabel was always a hard worker, the child of sharecroppers and has always held her family in the highest regard. After graduating high school, Mabel worked for the former Bata Shoe Company in the environmental services department. Mabel will be remembered for her sharp memory and whit. She enjoyed watching the news and participating in evening game shows: Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. She had been an active participant in weekly wrestling matches and football games and could oftentimes be heard throughout the house offering her opinions on calls that were made or cheering on her favorite team.
Mabel is survived by her son, Roger (Becky) Pritt of Edgewood, MD and her grandchildren: Susan (Nelson) Neal, Angie Zelinski and Robin (Robert) Pritt, all of Aberdeen, MD, Michael Elliott and Richard Pritt, both of Madonna, MD and Jeffrey Pritt of Edgewood, MD. She is also survived by six great grandchildren: Vincent, Taylor, Tyler, Zach, Josh and Zoe Elliott and two great-great grandchildren: Jade and Alaya Elliott.
In addition to her parents and late husband, Mabel was predeceased by children, Diane Elliott, Dennis and Robert Pritt and siblings: Hattie, Virginia, George and Guy.
