Obituary for Mary F. Pennington Whitely

MARY F. PENNINGTON WHITELY, 80 of Bel Air, MD, died on Saturday June 4, 2022 in Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, Bel Air, MD. Married on October 8, 2017, she had shared 4 years of marriage with Lloyd Dean Whitely.

Born on April 17, 1942 in Atkins, VA, she was a daughter of the late Raymond C. and Margaretta (Croy) Overbay. Mary was a longtime member of Bel Forest Baptist Church of Bel Air, MD. Her family remarked, “Yesterday we said goodbye to the best mother, wife, nana, sister, cousin, friend, mentor and servant of God anyone could have asked for. It is with great sadness that we announce her passing. If you knew our mom, we are sure you will always remember the joy in her heart and her beautiful smile even in adversity. 80 years was not long enough.”

She is survived by:
Two daughters-
Robin Furness (Patrick) of Bel Air, MD
Dawn Blackburn (Scott) of Bel Air, MD

A brother, Benny Overbay (Jane) of Bel Air, MD

Five grandchildren-Joshua Canami, Hannah Asbury, Jessica Canami, Andrew Asbury and Noah Asbury.

A great grandson, Atlas Haynie

She was preceded in death by:
Her first husband of 55 years, Bruce B. Pennington who died on December 10, 2016
Her brother, Delbert Overbay and sister, Doris Gore.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, June 8th from 6 – 8 p.m. at Harkins Funeral Home, 600 Main Street, Delta, PA where the funeral will begin at 1:30 P.M. on Thursday the 9th. Pastor Jimmy Rufenacht will officiate with interment to follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Whiteford, MD next to Bruce.
