Obituary for Mary Frances Peach

Mary Frances Peach, 80, of Delta, PA, passed away on March 30, 2023. She was born in Baltimore, MD, to her late parents; John Baptist and Marie Constance (Schubert) Sunkel. She was married to her late husband, Kenneth Stanley Peach; together they shared 59 years of marriage until his death on February 11, 2007.

Mary was no stranger to hard work. Her father was a first generation immigrant from Germany. After marriage, they made their home in Baltimore and Mary attended St. Elizabeth’s School. When her father died, Mary left school to help her mother. She persevered, working during the day to help with living costs and attending night classes to finish high school. After graduating, she began to work as an administrative assistant, working her way through and retiring as the assistant to the executive in the defense contracting industry.

Mary was a selfless, loving and devoted spouse and mother. Her husband was a career officer with the Baltimore City Police Department. She was steadfast and supportive. Her children were an important part of her life. She left her career to raise her children, returning after they were in school. She and Kenneth raised their family in Sykesville, MD. She attended all school events and supported Theresa, James and Mary Beth in all of their activities. She was an excellent cook, gardener and loved birds (especially hummingbirds). When her grandchildren were born, Mary retired to love and nurture them.

Mary loved the Lord and was a devout Catholic. She was a member of St. Mary, Pylesville parish and was a member of The Belles of St. Mary’s. While with the ladies, she enjoyed crocheting hats for babies in the NICU at various hospitals and making clothing for children in Guatemala. Prior to attending St. Mary’s, she and her family attended St. Joseph’s, in Sykesville, MD. While a member of both parishes, Mary was a Eucharistic minister.

Mary is survived by her children; Theresa Marie (Peach) Layton, of Havre de Grace, MD, James Kenneth Peach, of Hampstead, MD, and Mary Beth (Daniel) Wasmer, of Delta, PA. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Connor Daniel Wasmer, Madison Marie Peach and Bailey MacKenzie Wasmer. Her sister, Paula Marie (Ronald) Hurlock, of Plant City, FL, also survives.
