Melvin Donald Stoecker, 84, of Street, MD, died at home on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, surrounded by his loving wife and family. Melvin was born to his late parents Clifford John Stoecker and Elizabeth Josephine (Cumberland) Stoecker in Rosedale, MD. He was married to his beloved wife Floris Ann (Crawford) Stoecker on July 24, 1965.
Melvin worked as an airline pilot for the former Eastern Airlines for 30 years. He loved the feeling of flying and the responsibility that it required. In addition to flying the Boeing 727 for Eastern, he owned his own airplane. Friends and neighbors always marveled at the fuselage sticking out from the garage at the family home in Joppatowne. In his free time, he enjoyed traveling to local schools and talking with children about flying.
Melvin was a man of great faith. He loved the Lord and his church family. He and Floris worshiped at Reformation Bible Church in Darlington, MD. He also drove school bus for Harford Christian School in his retirement. He was a quiet man, resolute and honest. While he had many passions in life, his greatest joy was when he was with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to his loving wife at home, Melvin is survived by three children: David Matthew Stoecker, of Street, MD, Michele (Melvin) Walker, of Quarryville, PA and Elizabeth (Paul Joseph or PJ) Barlow, of Felton, PA. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Julia Michelle Teaman, of East Earl, PA, Leah Elisabeth Hyel Webber, of York, PA, Haley (Tory) Mackenzie Long, of Mt. Joy, PA and Reilly Amanda Teaman, of Ft. Bragg, NC. Left to cherish his memory is three great grandchildren: Madelyn Mae Johnson, Khaland Miles Long and Liam Michael Webber, and one sister, Linda Lee (Manuel) Martinez, of Selbyville, DE.
In addition to his parents, Melvin was predeceased by one brother, Clifford L. Stoecker.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial contributions be made to Harford Christian School, 1736 Whiteford Rd, Darlington, MD 21034.
