Obituary

MERRIKEN D. “BUD” NORTH, 88 years of Pikesville, MD, formerly of Whiteford and Baltimore, died on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at 6 a.m. in the Springhouse of Pikesville, MD.

Bud was the beloved husband of Helen Ruth (Robbins) North, and on June 21, 2020, they observed their 62nd wedding anniversary. Born in Baltimore, MD on June 10, 1932, he was the son of the late Walter D. and Ruth (Cook) North and graduated from the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute. Bud began working as a Baltimore City firefighter at Engine #38 in 1951

Bud served his country with the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean War Era for two years, honorably discharged in December 1955. He returned to Engine #38 and served 30 years until his retirement in 1981. In 1979, Bud moved with his family to Whiteford, MD and began his post retirement working in the facilities department at the Hampton House in Towson, MD. Later he worked as the night manager at the former Graceton Store, now called Saubel’s Market in Whiteford. His last employment was for the former Fallston General Hospital where he worked as a painter. In 1999, Bud suffered a heart attached and decided to officially retire.

Bud and Helen were very active in church and church choirs at Jerusalem Lutheran, Slate Ridge Presbyterian Church, both in Whiteford and later with the Fawn United Methodist Church. Sharing his vocal talent, he sang with the Bay Country Gentlemen, a barbershop choral group, in Harford County, MD. Bud and Helen remained inseparable; their mutual love for animals was no more evident than when they began rescuing greyhounds. From 1992 until 2014, they welcomed several dogs into their lives. In 2018, they relocated to The Springhouse of Pikesville, MD.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by;
Three children:
Michael North and his wife, Tina of Baldwin, MD
Michele Doyle and her husband, Larry of Havre de Grace, MD
Charles “Chip” North and his wife, Billie of Airville, PA

One sister:
Martha Mueller of New Cumberland, PA

Five grandchildren:
