Obituary for Miriam Evelyn Herbst
MIRIAM EVELYN HERBST, 91 of Delta, PA, passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 in York Hospital. She was the beloved wife for 62 years of Vernon J. Herbst who died in August 2021.
Born on April 17, 1930 in Lower Chanceford Township, PA, she was the only child of the late Goldie Barrett and a lifetime resident of York County. Miriam had worked for several sewing factories before her sons were born; she chose to stay at home with them returning to the work force after they were raised. She enjoyed gardening and canning the vegetables she grew in the family garden. In retirement, Miriam and her late husband enjoyed traveling concentrating on the western part of the country and the New England states. She was a longtime member of Grace United Methodist Church of Windsor, PA where she had attended Sunday School, served as a greeter and participated in church activities. She will be remembered for her caring spirit and always placing other’s needs before her own.
She is survived by:
A son, John M. Herbst of Delta, PA
A daughter-in-law, Lori Herbst of East Berlin, PA, wife of her late son James Herbst who died in March 2017
A granddaughter, Jessica Warner of East Berlin, PA
A close friend, Jackie Shoff and several loving nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, March 21, 2022 at Windsor Cemetery, 21 N. Penn St., Windsor, PA beginning at 2:30 p.m. Please gather at the gravesite for the service. Pastor Timothy Funk of St. Paul United Methodist Church will officiate.
