Obituary for Paul R. Miller

Paul R. Miller, of Whiteford, MD, died at his home on Monday, November 29, 2021, the day of his 84th birthday. Mr. Miller was born in Fawn Grove, PA, to his late parents Burton Miller and Bessie (Shanberger) Miller and remained a life-long resident of the area. He was married to his loving wife Barbara, for 63 years in October.

Paul owned and operated Paul Miller Oil Burner Service for many years. Chances are, if you lived or worked in the area and had an oil burning furnace; Paul had worked at your home or business. In addition to owning his own business, he was a dedicated family man. He served his country as a member of the Army National Guard, receiving an honorable discharge after three years of service. Paul volunteered a lifetime to the fire service. He held officer and executive positions at Delta-Cardiff Volunteer Fire Company and Whiteford Volunteer Fire Company. Most recently, he was the fire-police captain at Whiteford Volunteer Fire Company. He was a member of Esdraelon Lodge No. 176 AF&AM and attended Slate Ridge Presbyterian Church.

In addition to his loving wife, Paul is survived by two children; Deborah (Calvin) Jones of Colora, MD and Robert Steven Miller of Whiteford, MD. He is also survived by one sister, Romaine Webb of Orlando, FL, four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Paul was predeceased by his siblings, Helen Scott, Eugene Miller, Evelyn Tyson, Dale Miller and Everitt Miller.

Graveside services will be held at Slate Ridge Cemetery on Friday, December 3, 2021 at 2:30 in the afternoon. Reverend Ken Osborne of Slate Ridge and Slateville Presbyterian Churches will officiate. Fire service personnel are encouraged to attend the service; the family has requested no apparatus. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Whiteford Volunteer Fire Company, 1407 Pylesville Road, Whiteford, MD 21160.
