Obituary for Rebecca Henrietta Gjerdahl

REBECCA HENRIETTA GJERDAHL, 88 of Delta, PA, passed quietly the morning of Friday, January 7, 2022 in her home. She was the beloved wife of the late James Merle Gjerdahl; they had shared 50 years of marriage at the time of his death on December 5, 2001.

Born on February 18, 1933 in Camden, NJ, she was the oldest of nine children born to the late James Morgan Taylor and Rebecca Harrison (Loux) Taylor and a graduate of Severna Park High School in Baltimore, MD. Strong in her Christian faith, Rebecca was a long time member of Bryansville United Methodist Church where she was very active in church programs. She had served as a Sunday School teacher, worked in Vacation Bible School with the children, participated in Bible studies, organized funeral lunches and served on the church smorgasbord dinner committee.

Her memberships include the Harford Chapter #83, Order of the Eastern Star, Bel Air, MD.

She is survived by:
One daughter: Brenda Lee Compher and her husband, Joseph of Delta, PA

One grandson: Joseph David Compher and his wife, Nicole

Two great-grandchildren: Taylor Grace Compher and Carson Lee Compher

One sister: Virginia Lee Duva

A brother-in-law: Michael Ketchum

She was preceded in death by three children; James Martin Gjerdahl, David Wayne Gjerdahl, and Terri Lynn Winpisinger and one great-grandson; Ty Christopher Compher.

Rebecca was a strong woman having suffered the loss of her husband and three of her children. It was her faith in God and her family members that kept her going.

A viewing will be held on Friday, January 14 beginning at 9 am at the Bryansville United Methodist Church, 2325 Bryansville Road, Delta, PA.

The funeral service will begin immediately following the viewing at 10 am. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, her family would appreciate memorial contributions to Grand Chapter of Maryland O.E.S. “Service Dogs” 304 International Circle, MD 21030-1300.
