ROBERT LEE THOMPSON, 79 of Brogue, PA, lived his life on his own terms and died on his own terms in his home on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 with his loving wife of 61 years, Connie M. (Laird) Thompson at his side. Bob was known to live his life exactly as he wished and it was no different in choosing where to spend his final moments where he had the opportunity to visit with each of his family members in the family home.
Born on December 24, 1942 in Red Lion, PA, he was a son of the late William A. and Alverta M. (Shaeffer) Thompson and a graduate of Red Lion Area High School. Bob was a hardworking man and had been a welder for Local Union #13 Boilermakers of Philadelphia for 32 years. An avid outdoorsman, Bob enjoyed hunting in the western part of the United States, especially Wyoming as well as in Clinton County at the family cabin. He found the quiet moments fishing and watching the elk, bears, wild turkeys and the wildlife of the woodland areas a treasure. Bob was a life member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, life member of the Collinsville Fish and Game Club and a member of the Friendship Lodge #663, F. & A.M. of Fawn Grove, PA.
Family was very important to Bob. Holiday celebrations to just sitting around the home together with family and friends, along with old cars and watching Nascar and Old Westerns were highlights for him. Losing his two children: Sharon Whitehead and Terry Thompson in addition to his grandson, Ryan Thompson were moments when the family came together to support he and his wife, Connie. Bob recently lost his loving dog, Lizzie who was at his side for over 18 years. Love of family, the great outdoors and his Lord were the staples of Bob’s life and his parting as well.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by: three children- all of Brogue, PA R. Franklin Thompson (Robin); Tamara L. Trump (Ricky); Vicki L. Solomon (Douglas) eleven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren Three sisters-Shirley Gardner of Red Lion, PA Mae Baldwin and Rose Taylor, both of Brogue along with a number of nieces and nephews. Additional family who proceeded him in death were his brothers: William Thompson and Richard Thompson.
Services will be held on Monday, March 28, 2022 at McKendree United Methodist Church, 3708 Delta Road, Airville, PA with a viewing from 11:30 – 1:30 p.m. followed immediately with the funeral service. Church minister, Pastor Gary D. Allshouse will officiate with interment will be in the church cemetery.
