Obituary for Ruth Marie Miller
Life story prepared by her loving family: Ruth M. Miller or Mom, age 95, was born on the Brown family farm in Delta, PA on October 28, 1927. The farm is where she met the love of her life, Walter J. Miller. They married on August 15, 1947 and were married almost 34 years at the time of his death in 1981 at age 57.
Most people called her Marie or Mrs. Miller. Mom was a dedicated farm wife and mother. She supported dad on the family farm with all his business ideas. They owned and operated Miller’s Grocery Store and Restaurant, Delta, PA for many years. As a farmer’s wife, she supported Dad’s long hours on the farm and store. She was also the bookkeeper for the farm and business. Mom packed many meals for the farm hands during the years. She worked hard in the store and restaurant and raised 6 kids while doing so. She was known for her delicious meals, especially on holidays and Sunday nights. Everyone loved her sweet tea.
Mom loved traveling out west and taking family trips to Potter County and Ocean City, MD. She loved seeing animals on her adventures and would get excited every time it would snow. Mom was with Dad when he passed in 1981. Life was hard and was never the same for our family, but she persisted on. Mom barely survived when her oldest child, Janie, died in 2019 from cancer. Family was everything to mom and we will miss her very much.
Marie is survived by her children: Jim Miller, of Coudersport, PA, John (Tena) Miller, of Coudersport, PA, Joyce Hornick, wife of Bruce who died in 2021, of Delta, PA, Joan (Bob) Froman, of Delta, PA and Janice (Mike) Smith, of Delta, PA. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren: Janet Boyd, Bobbie Jo Miller, Jennifer Booth, Jessica Boothe, Robert Wakeley, Christina Markey and Amber Black, her brother Dave Brown and many great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband; Ruth was predeceased by her daughter Dorothy J. Miller, her granddaughter Chrystal Miller and her siblings, Harold Brown and Dorothy Ruff.
At the request of Marie, all services will be held privately and at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial contributions are made to: Children’s Miracle Network, or Fawn Grove Teens, c/o Fawn Grove Church of the Nazarene, 5300 Fawn Grove Road, Pylesville, MD 21132.
