Obituary for Samuel Bradford Foard Jr.

On December 21, 2022, SAMUEL BRADFORD FOARD, JR., age 92 passed away in Forest Hill, MD. He was born on the family farm to the late Samuel B. Foard, Sr. and Etta (Huff) Foard. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years Dorothy (Amos) Foard, daughter Edith Jones, brother Wilbur Foard, and sister Virginia Massey. He is survived by his daughter Constance Richardson and her husband Frank, son-in-law R. Stephen Jones, daughter Carol Miller and her husband Roderick, and daughter Kristine Hopkins and her husband Nelson. He was the grandfather of Melissa Milligan and her husband Darren, Jennifer Jones, Bradley Richardson and his wife Chelsea, Andrew Adams, Jordan Miller, Trevor Richardson, Kaitlyn Hopkins, and Allison Hopkins. He was the great-grandfather of Stephen Milligan, Colton Milligan, Rhen Allen-Miller, and Stella Richardson.

He was a graduate of Jarrettsville High School and attended Wheaton College for a year before returning home to farm, where he built along with his wife Dorothy a successful dairy operation. He served in many business and civic organizations over the years including board secretary of the Jarrettsville Milk Hauling Cooperative, vice president of the Maryland Cooperative Milk Producers, vice president of Dairymen, Inc., director of the board of Delta National Bank and six of its successors, director of the Harford County Farm Bureau, chair of the Harford County Agriculture Land Preservation Committee, Supervisor of the Harford Soil Conservation District, a member of the State Agricultural Commission, the Harford County Planning Commission, the Deer Creek Scenic River Board, the Deer Creek Preservation Board, and the Deer Creek Watershed Association.

He was a lifelong member of Emory United Methodist Church, where he served in various capacities including adult Sunday School teacher, chair of the building committee after the sanctuary was destroyed by fire in 1962, trustee, and board chair.

Viewings are scheduled for Monday, December 26, 2022 from 2 pm until 4 pm and again from 6 pm until 8 pm at Emory United Methodist Church, 911 Cherry Hill Road, Street, MD. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 beginning at 11 am at the church with Pastors Stephen Smith and Rod Miller officiating. Interment will immediately follow the funeral in the adjoining church cemetery.
