Obituary for Stella Fay Cole Burns

Stella (Fox) Cole Burns, 96, of Rising Sun, MD, entered into the Kingdom of Heaven on Saturday, November 13, 2021. She was born on Valentine’s Day in 1925 to the late John E. Fox and Elizabeth Ann (Ingram) Fox, on Whitetop Mountain, Virginia.

Stella loved her Lord and worshipped at Franklin Baptist Church where her grandparent and parents worshipped as well. She was a faithful member of the Women’s Missionary Union. Stella was well known for having a welcoming home, being an exquisite cook and baking the best homemade breads and rolls. She enjoyed fellowshipping with friends when they would bring her fresh vegetables from their gardens or fresh caught fish. Always appreciated extra food, helping to make ends meet during the time of being a single mother of 6. She always welcomed everyone with loving, giving heart.

Stella held many different jobs in her lifetime, during WWII, she worked at Edgewood Arsenal in the gas mask factory then Edgewood Water Filtration Plant. Also, various small country stores and dinners - Johnson’s, Miller’s, Dobbie’s Dinner Fallston Store, Mar Lee Inn, Glen Echo Diner (which was Stella’s own business) and The Chuck House (owned by her Aunt Julie Henderson) and was a school bus driver for North Harford High School. By FAR her most fulfilling job was being a Homemaker for State of Maryland Social Services, she was able to care for people first hand, having always dreamed of becoming a nurse.

The greatest joy she experienced was the joy she had while being with family. Stella is survived by sons; Ronald (Shirley) Cole, Richie (Leslie) Cole, Kirk (Patti) Cole, and daughter Darlene Bobo (widow of Tom Shutt and Barry Bobo). She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren and one brother, John W. (Patricia) Fox.

In addition to her parents, Stella was preceded in death by two children, Adrian Bryan Cole and Sheila Berry and four brothers: Clarence Fox, Bruce Fox, Fred Fox and Jesse Fox.

The family will receive friends on Friday, November 19, 2021 from 7-9 p.m. at Franklin Baptist Church, 2106 Franklin Church Road, Darlington, MD, 21034, and again on Saturday, November 20, 2021 from 10-11 am. A funeral service will be held at the church beginning at 11 am with Pastor Doug Cook and Pastor Rick Wilson co-officiating. Stella will be laid to rest in Darlington Cemetery, Darlington, MD, immediately following her funeral. In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial contributions be made to Franklin Baptist Church (Missionary Project -kids) at the above address, or, to a charity of one’s choosing that provides for children in need.
