Obituary for Virginia W. Gonio
VIRGINIA W. GONIO, 85 of Owings Mills, MD, died peacefully on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 in the Dove House Hospice, Westminster, MD. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert C. Gonio who died on July 13, 2020. At the time of his death, they had shared 61 years of marriage.
Born on April 1, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois, she was a daughter of the late Louis Charles Wenzel and Sylvia (Paul) Wenzel and a graduate of Downers Grove North High School in Downers Grove, IL. In 1973 when her late husband, Bob was transferred to Baltimore, she and the family moved to the east coast. She had worked as a secretary for AT&T for over 25 years. Virginia was a member of Holy Cross Episcopal Church where she had served for many years as church secretary and was a member of the altar guild.
In her earlier years, Virginia enjoyed going camping and actually driving the RV. She loved her pets, sewing and was quite content in the kitchen cooking. At one time, she had purchased and decorated a dollhouse that she was quite proud of and then later donated it to the local church for their fundraising auction. Virginia enjoyed a good book, usually a murder mystery with a fondness for Agatha Christie novels and watching Forensic Files on television. Hallmark Channel Christmas movies were among her favorite pastimes and in conclusion, she loved Elvis music.
She is survived by:
Two daughters: Dawn M. Hemler of Owings Mills, MD and Deborah L. Gonio of Hampstead, MD. Five grandchildren: Elizabeth Hemler, Kevin Hemler, Timothy Hemler, Dale Groth and Dean Groth; Three great grandchildren: Mason, Zoe and Caden Hemler.
Services will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at Harkins Funeral Home, 600 Main Street, Delta, PA with a viewing from noon until 1 p.m. followed immediately with the funeral service. Her pastor, Reverend Mary Davisson, Vicar will officiate. Interment will be held in Holy Cross Cemetery, Street, MD.
In lieu of flowers, her family would appreciate memorial contributions to Holy Cross Episcopal Church 4603 Rocks Road, Street, MD 21154.
