Obituary for William David Wasel

LIFE STORY PREPARED BY HIS LOVING FAMILY: William David (“Dave”) Wasel went to be with the Lord on Saturday 8 October 2022. His loving wife, Jean, was by his side. Dave was born on 27 July 1941 in Cleveland, Ohio to William and Clara Wasel. The US Army brought Dave to Maryland in 1963. On 25 March 1972, he married Jean Zirkle at Christ Our King Church, Bel Air, MD. Dave and Jean celebrated 50 years of marriage earlier this year.

Dave was an amazing husband; father, brother, uncle, friend and GDad. He is survived by his wife Jean of Pylesville, MD, his son Brian (Megan) of Lexington Park, MD, his sister Linda of Providence, RI and his granddaughters Cristiana and Olivia.

Dave was an Army veteran. As a civil servant, he worked at the biophysics department at the Edgewood Arsenal on a multitude of ballistic and chemical projects. In 1989, Dave retired from the government and opened The Lamp Shoppe in Bel Air and Fells Point, MD. He ran the small business in these two locations with his wife for over 25 years.

Dave had a green thumb and looked forward each year to his extensive flower and vegetable gardens. He was a fan of the Baltimore Orioles and the Cleveland Browns. He loved to fish and be on/near the water. He was a Cubmaster for Pack 842 in Street, MD and active in scouting with his son. He enjoyed all of the camping and socializing that came with scouting. He enjoyed telling of his adventures with long time best friend, Ray McHugh.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, December 9, 2022 at 11 am at Reformation Bible Church, 1736 Whiteford Road, Darlington, MD. The Reverend Dr. John E. McKnight will officiate the service.
