ALVERTA LEE STEVENS LIMING, wife of the late Ralph F. Liming, died on November 20, 2009 at the age of 92.
Born in Harford County, Maryland, Alverta attended Mill Green School and graduated from the former Highland High School in Street, Maryland. After completing Stragers-Bryant Business College, she worked as a secretary in Harford County and as a welfare officer for Baltimore City. She was the Executive Secretary for many years at the Youth Study Center of Philadelphia. At the start of WWII, she was proud to enlist in the United States Navy and be the first volunteer from Harford County to join the Waves.
Alverta was the daughter of the late Wilton Leroy and Mary (Famous) Stevens and sister of Arthur (Tim) Famous Stevens, Mary Virginia Martin and Charles Richard Stevens. Sister-in-law of Harriet Fenby Stevens, Ellen Galbreath Stevens and Peggy Thomas Stevens. She is also survived by three generations of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Leroy Stevens and a brother-in-law, Gerald A. Martin, Sr.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 22, 2009 from 6 to 8 PM at Emory United Methodist Church, 911 Cherry Hill Road, Street, Maryland.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, the 23rd at 11AM at the church with interment in the adjoining church cemetery where seven generations of her family ghave been laid to rest.
Her pastor, Reverend Dr. Paul Benjamin will officiate.
