Wells
March 13, 1942 – July 31, 2022
Written by her loving family - Belva Wells 80 of Delta, PA, died on Sunday, July 31, 2022 and was born on March 13, 1942 in York Hospital to the late Luther and Daisy Johnson. She attended Kennard Dale High School in Fawn Grove, PA. Expressing her love for the Lord, Belva was a member of Trinity A.M.E Zion Church, Delta, PA, where she held several positions during her seventy plus years of membership. She was an active choir member, #3 Missionary Class Leader, missionary, presenter of intercessory prayer and meal outreach helper. Other leadership roles she held in the church included her service as a Lay Council Secretary and General Claims Secretary.
Belva was equally dedicated to her family, often postponing her personal dreams and ambitions for their benefit. For many years when she was not caring for her own home, she worked as a housekeeper. Bingo was one of her favorite pastimes along with participating in activities at the Delta Senior Center. In addition to solving puzzles and watching game shows, Belva was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. Furthermore, she was very involved with preparations for the annual Johnson Family reunion and Christmas dinners.
Belva was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Samuel Everett Wells, Sr., her parents, Luther Johnson, Sr. and Daisy (Gilchrist) Johnson; two sisters: Audrey Murray and Virginia Johnson.
She is survived by her six children: Cynthia D. Brown and her husband, David of Fayetteville, NC, Samuel E. Wells Jr. and his partner, Oscar of Virginia Beach, VA, Theresa M. Jordan of Tampa Bay, FL, David J. Wells, Sr. of Marietta, PA, Neil M. Wells and his wife, Vanessa of Mount Wolf, PA and Michael A. Wells and his wife, Edith of Nassau, FL. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
Her brothers, Luther Johnson Jr. and his wife, Margaret of Baltimore, MD, James Johnson Sr. and wife, Brenda of Upper Marlboro, MD and sisters Geraldine Hibner of York, PA, Mildred Hawkins, Patricia Long, Roxie Johnson all of Baltimore, MD. Sisters-in- law: Sarah Leonard of Wilmington, DE, Martha Lewis of Edgewood, MD and Marion Hall of Delta, PA as well as a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends.
A viewing will be held at Harkins Funeral Home, 600 Main Street, Delta, PA on Friday. August 12th from 6 – 8 p.m. Funeral home staff members will be outside to assist with parking.
Home-Going Services will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at noon in Slate Ridge Presbyterian Church, 1630 Chestnut Street, Cardiff (Whiteford) MD. Her pastor, Reverend Daisy L. Woodard will officiate. Following the service, extended family and guests will be invited to the repast at Slate Ridge American Legion Post #182, 2217 Whiteford Road, Whiteford, MD. The immediate family will join everyone after the private interment in Trinity Zion Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, her family would appreciate memorial contributions to her church, Trinity A.M.E. Zion, 1006 Main Street, Delta, PA 17314.
The evening will close with reading of the Holy Scripture, song and benediction.
Friends are invited to be seated in the sanctuary beginning at 11:15 AM. Private internment will be held for the family immediately following the Going Home Service. Extended family members as well as guests are invited to travel to the American Legion Post #182, 2217 Whiteford Road, Whiteford, MD for the repast.
