CARMELA J. LAYTON, 83 of Delta, PA, died on Monday, May 31, 2021 in Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, MD. Married on September 22, 1962, she had shared 59 years with her beloved husband, Homer L. Layton.

Born on January 14, 1938 in Baltimore, MD, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Joseph Fiore and Pauline Antoinette (Piccione) Fiore and a graduate of Sister of the Good Shepherd School. Known as "Millie" she had moved from Baltimore in 1969 with her husband and had joined St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Parish in Pylesville, MD. Millie was a faithful parishioner worshipping weekly, helped with the church chicken dinners and prepared casseroles for the food drives.

Millie and her husband managed the former John S. Murphy VFW Post #7130 in Delta, PA where she was a longtime bartender as well as bartending at the American Legion Post #182 of Whiteford, MD. She was a lifetime member of both organizations and a member of the legion ladies auxiliary. In reflection of her dedication, a remembrance service will follow the funeral by the Ladies Auxiliary from the American Legion Post #182.

Millie was devoted to her husband and family.

Seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren

She was preceded in death by her son, William Layton, two brothers and three sisters.

Services will be held on Friday, June 4, 2021 at Harkins Funeral Home, 600 Main Street, Delta, PA with a viewing from 12:00 – 1:45 p.m. followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m. Deacon Phil Seneschal of her parish will officiate; the Ladies Auxiliary will present a memorial service just prior to the service. Interment will be in Slate Ridge Cemetery, Delta, PA.
