Obituary

Romaine Morris was the daughter of the late Abel and Eliza (Brooks) Morris. She was proud of her Welsh heritage and was the great granddaughter of Captain David Jones, who was known as one of the first slate quarry operators in the Delta area. She graduated from Delta High School and attended the Thompson School in York, Pennsylvania.

She retired after thirty-seven years of employment from Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Harford County, Maryland. She had worked as a secretary and administrative assistant to twelve different commanding generals. She was a member of the Bryansville United Methodist Church in Delta, Pennsylvania where she was had attended in her earlier years. She later joined Grace United Methodist Church in Aberdeen, Maryland and was a member of the Sanctuary Choir for over thirty years. Romaine maintained an active interest in the Rehoboth Welsh Church in Delta, Pennsylvania.

She had a great interest in local history of both Harford County, Maryland and York County, Pennsylvania. She was a member of the Harford County Historical Society and served on the board of directors for several terms. Romaine was a member of the Stepping Stone Museum Association. She was one of the founders and volunteers of the Aberdeen Room and Archives. She had been a volunteer at Harford Memorial Hospital for over twenty-five years and was vice-president of the hospital auxiliary. She was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter H in Aberdeen.

Romaine was interested in music and regularly attended the Baltimore Symphony concerts and the Baltimore Opera Company performances. She was an avid traveler, having traveled extensively in Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean.

She is survived by:

One niece, Dorothy I. Morris of Airville, Pennsylvania and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Thomas P. Morris and Ivan B. Morris.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 1, 2005 at 4:00 PM at Grace United Methodist Church, 110 W. Bel Air Avenue, Aberdeen, Maryland, 21001. Her pastor, Dr. James R. Morgan will officiate.
