CATHERINE A. BUCHANAN, age 84 years, of York, Pennsylvania, formerly of Brogue, entered into rest peacefully on Saturday, June 14, 2008 at the York County Hospital and Home in York, Pennsylvania. She was the wife of Ernest L. Buchanan who resides at Manor Care Nursing Home in Dallastown, Pennsylvania.

Mrs. Buchanan was born on May 4, 1924 in Pylesville, Maryland; she was one of four children born to the late Herbert and Edna (Peaco) Walton. She graduated in 1941 from Bel Air Colored High School. Catherine retired from the Peach Bottom Nuclear Power Plant in 1991, having worked in the housekeeping department. She was a member of Chestnut Grove A.M.E. Zion Church in Rocks, Maryland where she planned social events and sang in the choir. She enjoyed flower arranging.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by:

A daughter, Carolyn Oliver of Martinsville, Virginia

Darlene Jordan, whom she had mothered since the age of two, and her companion, William Patterson of Red Lion, Pennsylvania.

Ciara Jordan, whom she referred to as "Grandma's Girl" from Red Lion, Pennsylvania

A stepdaughter, Pam Martin of Airville, Pennsylvania

A brother, Clarence Walton of Pylesville, Maryland and a sister, Dorothy Edwards of Aberdeen, Maryland.

Several sister-in-laws, a brother-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by:

A stillborn daughter, Luann Buchanan and a brother, James Earl Walton.

Services will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2008 at Harkins Funeral Home, 600 Main Street, Delta, Pennsylvania where the visitation will be held from 10:00 - 11:00 AM. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM with Reverend Dwight Holland presiding.

Cremation will follow after the services.
