CLAUDE C. HURT, age 75 years of York Springs, Pennsylvania, formerly of Delta, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 25, 2008 at Gettysburg Hospital in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. He was the husband of Delores "Dean" (Whitt) Hurt, and they shared fifty-six years of marriage.

Mr. Hurt was born on July 19, 1932 in Sprague, West Virginia; he was a son of the late Frank and Elsie (Burchett) Hurt. Because he was raised in a poverty situation, he joined the United States Army at age 15 years and served his country from January 1949 until November 1951. During his military service, he obtained his GED and achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class with the 38th Infantry 2nd Division. He fought four years in the Korean War and returned home, a highly decorated soldier in addition to being awarded the Purple Heart.

Mr. Hurt worked many jobs in his lifetime. He was best known as a machinist working for Grumman Aircraft Corporation and the Koppers Company in Glen Arm, Maryland.

Mr. Hurt was awarded the Fletcher L. Bryron Public Service Award for extraordinary personal contributions to the quality of community life. Always remembering how it felt to be without, he was kind, generous and thoughtful of those less fortunate in life.

Mr. Hurt was an avid outdoorsman, deer hunting with his sons and nephews. When he became to tender with age to hunt, he would spend time telling old stories for friends and family members. He was fond of taking his grandchildren to the Annual Fish Day at the Delta Fish & Game. He enjoyed spending time at the beach, family gatherings and loved ice cream.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 29, 2008 from 7 till 9 PM at Harkins Funeral Home, 600 Main Street, Delta, Pennsylvania.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 AM at the funeral home. Interment will be in Union Chapel Cemetery, Delta, Pennsylvania. Military honors will be presented by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.

Pallbearers will be Mitchell Glenn, Martin Glenn, Richard Tarbert, Terry Smith, Zachary Malpass and Darryl Malpass.

Honorary pallbearers will be Christopher Hurt, Alex Hurt and Kenny Miles.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society at your local chapter.
