CLIFFORD WILLIAM HOPKINS, 79 of Forest Hill, MD, died on Monday, September 4, 2023 in his home. Born on March 13, 1944 in the former Fountain Green Hospital in Bel Air, MD, he was one of three children born to the late Clifford Melvin Hopkins and Ida Mae (Lane) Hopkins.

Cliff graduated from North Harford High School in Pylesville, MD and was a member of the 1961 – 62 Hawks Basketball Team that won the Maryland State Championship in Cole Field at the University of Maryland – College Park. He also was inducted in the North Harford High School Athletic Hall of Fame in its first year. A true athlete, Cliff enjoyed bowling, golfing and playing softball. An avid outdoorsman, he went camping, fishing and found special times to get together with family to eat crabs that family members had caught. Halloween was his favorite holiday, and he was certain that everyone had a great time every year. Cliff also enjoyed model trains and had quite a collection that he was eager to share with everyone. Some of his train cars were specialty models, and he took great pride in his collection.

Cliff had worked in the banking industry as a manager through many buyouts of the bank including The Commercial Bank, First Virginia, PNC and Carrollton Bank where he dedicated his service to the customers. Retiring in 2009, he delivered auto parts in retirement until the time of his untimely passing. Ocean City, MD was a favorite destination for summer vacations. He was known to attend all – just not occasionally - but all of his grandchildren's athletic events. A true family man, Cliff was a role model to his children and grandchildren. His caring spirit, kindness and smile will be missed.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2023 at 10 a.m. in Bel Air Memorial Gardens, 809 Rock Spring Road, Bel Air, MD. Please gather at the gravesite for the service where a friend of the family, Mr. William Kokie will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, his family would appreciate memorial contributions to The Humane Society of Harford County, 2208 Connolly Road, Fallston, MD 21047. Harkins Funeral Home has been entrusted with his arrangements.
