CLYDE A. HOLMES, age 89 years, died on Friday, June 4, 2010 in his home in Whiteford, Maryland. He was the husband of Cleo (Cantler) Holmes with whom he celebrated his 60th wedding anniversary this past March.

Born on December 21, 1920 in Renick, West Virginia, he was a son of the late Sturgis R. and Ethel R. (Morrison) Holmes. Mr. Holmes had lived in the area for the past forty years, having moved from West Virginia. He was a member of Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, Delta Volunteer Fire Company, and the Whiteford Volunteer Fire Company. Retiring in 1982 as a shop foreman, Mr. Holmes had worked for 25 years for the Redco Corporation in Red Lion, Pennsylvania. During his retirement, he owned and operated a tree service.

He enjoyed baseball, football, gardening, and spending time with his family. He was known to hand feed wildlife in is backyard.

He is also survived by:

A son, Clyde A. Holmes, Jr., and his wife, Donna of Whiteford, Maryland

A grandson, Andrew Brandon Holmes

A sister, Maxine Clough of Richmond, Virginia

A brother, Manuel Holmes of Joppa, Maryland

Two step-children:

Ryan Thomas and Danielle Thomas

He was preceded in death by his children-Linda Adele Holmes and Mervelle Holmes and brothers-Claude Holmes, Roy Holmes, Johnnie Holmes and Cecil Holmes.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Harkins Funeral Home, 600 Main Street, Delta, Pennsylvania with a visitation to be held one hour prior to the funeral service.

Interment will be in Bel Air, Memorial Gardens, Bel Air, Maryland.
