Obituary

Life story written by her family-Cindy Murtif Herbert 64, of Airville, grew up in Shiloh and passed away Thursday September 28th at home, surrounded by her family. Cindy was born in York, the daughter of the late William and Donna (Henchey) Murtif. The loving and devoted mother of daughters Larissa and Emily Herbert.

Cindy attended West York High School, then West Virginia Wesleyan College with a BS in Home Economics and a minor in Fashion Merchandising. A member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, the oldest secret society for college women in the world, established in 1851.

Cindy began her professional career at Hess's Department Store in 1981 managing housewares. During the booming retail market of the 1980s, she moved to the main office in Allentown as an assistant buyer. Merchandise coordinator, assistant store manager and then manager of stores in Elmira NY, Frackville, Wilkes-Barre, Easton, Frederick MD, Camp Hill and Harrisburg. In 2014, she started her own creative business called "Just Bag It" making bags from upcycled materials, into grocery totes, shoulder bags, wristlets, eyeglass cases, cell phone cases, also gave new life to vintage clothing.

Cindy was a member of the former Fawn United Methodist Church where she started a new rotational children's Sunday School with different activity centers. She also hosted the church breakfast for a few years. A member of the Red Lion School Board for eight years, she was active with the Clearview Elementary Parent Teacher Organization.

Cindy enjoyed whatever her girls were doing, whether it was soccer, softball, swimming, lacrosse, tennis, horse riding competitions, 4-H or camping out in the back yard. She enjoyed her puppy dog, cats, wildlife, gardening, flowers and playing games.

Cindy is survived by Duane, her husband of 25 years, daughters: Larissa Herbert Findlay Ohio and Emily Herbert Salt Lake City. One sister, Vicki Murtif Park (husband Edwards) nieces: Ellie and Becky. brother-in-law, Dale Herbert (Cathy) nephew, Daniel Herbert (Sarah), nieces: Sarah Koerner (Mark) & Clare Herbert and brother-in-law Todd Herbert (Pattie), nieces: Becky Hansen (Fred), Karlie, & Melanie Winters (Nick).
