In Loving Memory of Donna Whiteford
Donna Whiteford, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, wife, and friend, peacefully passed away in her home on May 16, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness.
Donna was born on August 9, 1951, and was raised in Street, MD by her late parents Wallace and Virginia Cochran; along with her sister Bonnie Homa and her late brother Sonny. At a young age, she began her journey of spreading joy and warmth to all who crossed her path. Growing up, Donna exemplified determination and grace, qualities that reflect throughout everything she did in life.
Throughout her years, Donna dedicated herself wholeheartedly to her family and community. She was a beacon of love, offering unwavering support and encouragement to her children, grandchildren, and all who knew her. Her gentle spirit and nurturing presence created a home filled with laughter, love, and cherished memories. Visitors were always offered a fresh baked treat and a warm cup of coffee; and nothing brought her more joy than having the entire family over for a home cooked meal.
Donna's compassionate nature extended beyond her family, as she generously gave her time and resources to support those in need. Her whole life she was devoted to the Fawn Grove Nazarene Church which she helped to establish. She donated her time as a Sunday school teacher, camp counselor, and board member; and she greatly enjoyed singing for the Sunday morning services.
She graduated from North Harford High School in 1969; and married Nick Whiteford in 1972. Together for 50 years, they built a beautiful home, family and business. For many years, she operated Whiteford Enterprises alongside Nick before opening her beloved Slate Quarry Furniture Store. Throughout the years, Donna worked with dozens of employees, whom she always thought of as her extended family.
To know Donna was to love Donna. She was kind and generous to every single person she ever met. She taught us the true meaning of grace, finding the blessing in each day and being thankful for all the little moments that make life beautiful. She took everything in stride, facing each new challenge with her favorite saying, "It is what it is."
She will forever be remembered by her loving family, including her two daughters, Nikki Whiteford (Whiteford, MD) and Kelly Law and her husband, Jason (Boulder, CO); her best friend and sister, Bonnie Homa (Jarrettsville, MD); her three adored grandchildren, Cambria Grace, Kendall Day, and Hunter Reed; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews (Jessica, Ben, Chris, David, Scott, Katie, Jeanette and Becca) and their families.
Donna never wanted to be the center of attention, so her services will be private for immediate family members only. Friends wishing to honor her are invited to make a donation in her name to the Fawn Grove Church of the Nazarene (5300 Fawn Grove Road, Pylesville, MD 21132); Mason-Dixon Community Services (5 Pendyrus Street, Suite 2, Delta, PA 17314); or Slate Ridge Presbyterian Church (1630 Chestnut Street, Cardiff, MD 21160).
Arrangements entrusted to Harkins Funeral Home, Inc., of Delta, PA.
