DORIS MARIE HESS, 87 years of Delta, PA, died on Friday, February 26, 2016 at the Dallastown Nursing Center. Married on September 25, 1948, she had shared 67 years of marriage with her loving and devoted husband, Robert D. Hess.
Born on January 6, 1929 in Delta, PA, she was a daughter of Ruth I. (Snyder) Mount and her stepfather, Otto S. Mount. A lifetime resident of Delta, Doris graduated from the former Lower Chanceford High School in 1946 and continued her education graduating from the Thompson Business College. Doris lived in York while attending college and worked in York at the West Side Hospital in the operating room.
After graduation, Doris took a position working for the Thomas A. Monk Engineering Firm in York and later worked as an insurance agent for Nationwide Insurance Company for 33 years. Doris maintained her insurance office in her home, retiring in 1991.
Doris enjoyed her time traveling with her husband, Bob and together they treasured times spent at their Delaware beach house. Doris enjoyed flowers and gardening.
A past Worthy Matron of Penn Mary OES Chapter #72 in Cardiff, MD, she also was a member of the Havre de Grace Chapter #27 OES. A 67+year member of Salem United Methodist Church , Doris had been very active assisting in many of the responsibilities of church events.

Gregory L. Hess of Airville, PA
A sister, Carolyn I. Anderson and her husband, Rowland of Perryville, MD
Five grandchildren-
Matthew Hess and his wife, Elizabeth; Alecia Morris and her husband, Brett
Heather Liester and her husband, Dan; Lylia Overmiller and her husband, Simon and Rachel Hess and their mother, Martha Jo Horton.
Six great grandchildren-McKenna Morris, Chase Morris, Devon Frantz, Augusten Hess, Taryn Liester and Olyn Overmiller.
Loving numerous nieces and nephews
She was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Tarbert and his late wife, Ann.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. followed immediately with the funeral service at Salem United Methodist Church, 5042 Delta Road, Delta, PA. 17314
Reverend James B. Shuler of Pine Grove Presbyterian Church, Airville, PA will officiate with interment in the adjoining church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, her family would appreciate memorial contributions to her church Memorial Fund at the above address.
